Surgical Orthodontic Treatment:
When braces are just not enough to create the best bite
Sometimes, we find that straightening out your teeth alone will not create the ideal bite that we strive to achieve. This occurs when your upper and/or lower jaw bones grow to non-proportional positions. The resulting disharmony is clearly visible in your bite and appearance, and can often be seen in any, or all three dimensions, (vertical, transverse and antero-posteriorly). When changing the position of the teeth alone does not create an ideal occlusal or biting relationship, we invite another dental specialist called an Oral and Maxillofacial Surgeon to help complete the correction. He or she will move the bones so the the correct proportions are present, allowing ideal function and beautiful esthetics. Most of the time, the surgical portion of the treatment occurs near the end of the orthodontic treatment, however, in some cases, it is required early on. If a surgical option is chosen, we work closely with the surgon throughout the treatment to ensure your results are the finest they can be. We only work with surgeons who are incredibly talented and have a great bedside manner.
